What is the best way for me to learn how to dance at clubs?
My friends like to go clubbing, and when I go, I usually feel like an idiot, since I don't really know how to dance. I am considering taking a class, such as intro to hip hop dance or jazz dance. Do you think this will help me build confidence for when I go out?
OK Hun , long winded but here goes….
firstly EVERYONE has rhythm but some are used to working with it then others.
secondly you are NOT alone, next time your at a club look around and see how many people can truly dance, you'll be able to count them on your hands !!
the idiot bit you mention is confidence and with confidence comes rhythm, to be able to move your body to the rhythm of the music needs concentration and for you to relax…that's NOT gonna happen Hun if you think your an idiot.
yes classes are a good idea, i teach street / hip hop to kids and when they start they're often are shy and lack confidence, this is what you need to build on.
the rhythm of music is the inner beat that runs tho a track of music. once you've spotted this then you can learn to move to that beat!
start of at home on your own. put on a dance track with a continuous beat or repeating lyrics, its easier to learn this way rather than a track that is split into sections .
once your ready just listen to the music for a few times then again but with tapping your feet, as silly as it sounds you tapping your feet to the beat means you HAVE rhythm.
dance classes will help broaden this skill and teach new moves.
hope this helps, and remember most people will be feeling the same as you xx
good luck hun and be safe….an idiot you are NOT xx

No.. Dance class will not give you rhythm… you can't do a jazz or hip hop routine at a club…
Start by trying to relax at the club and just feel the rhythm/ beat of the music.. Once you feel the rhythm let your body move to the beat…
Don't worry.. some people have it – some dont…
If you don't.. there's always the good ole "sprinkler/cabbage patch/lawn mower" routine.. (that's a joke)

A dance class would help you get more in touch with the coordination of your body, but so would a yoga class. In the mean time, if you just sort of move around in time to the music or make up some random moves people will probably think you can dance anyway.

Taking class will help with your rhythm and musicality. The best way to learn to club dance is just to go and watch. Pick out the guys you think are good and try to do what they do. Then practice at home in front of a mirror.
